The Choir of Hendon St Mary, one of England's leading church choirs, presents The Holly and the Ivy - A Program of English Christmas Music when it returns to New York this December. The program ranges from traditional medieval carols to 20th-century settings by Britten, Warlock and John Rutter, and includes Ralph Vaughan Williams beautiful Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
The church of Hendon St Mary, in north London, is over 1,000 years old; and music has played a big part in its worship for many centuries. Under Richard Morrison, its director of music for 30 years, the present choir of 30 men and women regularly tours around Britain and Europe, and has sung in many of the great English cathedrals. The choir last appeared at Good Shepherd in a magnificent performance of Handel's Messiah in 2007.
The Choir of Hendon St Mary performs Adeste Fideles.
